Munich to Varena Italy (Airplane, Train, or Drive)

Does anyone have any recommendations for traveling from Munich to Varena Italy? We were planning on flying form Munich to Milan then train travel to Varena. Has anyone ever driven this route or train traveled this route?

I know of no Varena in Italy. I know Verona, which is accessible by both train and car very quickly (Brennero Pass freeway or the train from Munich to Bologna and beyond, which stops in Verona). It's a 4 hour drive (train is 5 hours). Train is cheaper unless there are multiple travelers (2 or more) sharing the driving costs. There are also 2 daily flights from Munich to Verona Villafranca airport with Air Dolomiti. The flight is very short (less than one hour gate to gate) aboard a 78 seater turbo-prop ATR 72-500. However once you include the transfer from/to the airports (both a little out of town), security procedures etc., it's not that much shorter than train or drive. I know also of Varenna (with 2 N's) on the Lake Como. The fastest way would be to drive, since train requires multiple changes. The closest airport is Milan Linate or Bergamo Orio al Serio.

We drove from Reutte, Austria (near Fussen) to Varenna through Switzerland. We made day of it and left about 8am and arrived in Varenna around 5pm. We stopped in St. Moritz for 3+ hours, and wandered around the town, had a great lunch, took the tram up part of the mountain and walked down back to the village. I think the actual driving time was only 4 1/2 hours, and the drive was beautiful.
We looked into taking a train from Munich to Varrena, and was just too time consuming.
