Hello,
In April we are staying in Rome for 3 days (no car), then going to Tuscany countryside for 6 nights (close to Volterra) with day trips to multiple cities/towns (need rental car) and then heading to Venice for our last few days. Would I rent the car in Rome and return to Venice or drop it somewhere closer to Tuscany and take the train to Venice?
Easy to return your car as you get to Venice at Piazzale Roma. One less step and no dragging luggage on and off trains.
I agree with Suki. Rent it in Rome and return it on Piazzale Roma in Venice. From Tuscany to Venice it’s between 3 and 4 hour drive, depending on your departure point. It’s almost totally on freeways.
Follow directions on green signs pointing you to Firenze, Bologna, Padova, Venezia.
