Multi day tour in Sicily

What are you planning on doing/seeing?

Our first time there,so the usual stops. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Maybe you’ve already researched this, but Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT) has a 10-day Sicily tour. Of course, Day 1 is leaving the U.S.A., Day 2 is transferring to your hotel in Taormina in the afternoon after landing (so a minimal day in Sicily), and Day 10 is just breakfast, so it’s 7-8 days of actual sightseeing. The trouble is, while they list those tours for October 2027, they don’t show any for October 2026. I don’t know if the 2026 tours are totally sold out, so aren’t being advertised, or if there just aren’t any in 2026. You might contact OAT to see if 2026 is a possibility on any level. Cost could be $5,000 or more.

They do have 2026 trips that include Sicily as part of a longer trip that includes other countries.

A standard tour of Sicily such as those by Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT) , Road Scholar or Rick Steves that covers the major destinations (e.g., Palermo, Agrigento, Siracusa, Taormina, Etna, Villa Romana del Casale) will take two weeks (more or less). I did the OAT one earlier this year and it was great. There are some shorter ones, such as an OAT tour from their new shorter "Immersions" line that is about 10 days, and some by Road Scholar. However, a shorter tour will necessarily cover fewer destinations, and/or be a more specialized one such as a focus on cooking. If you're talking this October, two months from now, it's late in the day; Rick Steves tours there tend to sell out months in advance, for example. But maybe not impossible; OAT is currently offering some significant discounts to fill some departures of their longer Sicily tour this fall.

Is there a reason you are looking for a tour rather than planning the tour yourself? We just spent 10 days in Sicily in May. With the help of the forum and guidebooks, I found it easy to plan.

Thank you all. This confirms my sense that a short guided tour is not the best option for us. We will explore self drive tour options or just wing it like we have always done! Appreciate the feedback.

Self-guiding is pretty easy in my experience. With 9 days I'd pick 3 cities. Some combination you are interested in.

Palermo 3, Ragusa 4, Catania 2 -or- Palermo 3-4, Etna 3, Catania 2-3. (open jaws Catania both cases)
