To visit the summit of Vesuvius, two morning buses run from Naples or a more regular bus service runs from Pompeii, both run by EAVBUS, see www.eavbus.it (Italian only) or (more usefully) www.unicocampania.it, click English top right and look for 'Vesuvio Fares' under 'Tourist Info'. Pompeii to Vesuvius 8 am to 3:30 PM hourly - 10 euros - 55 minutes each

What site (Mt.V/Pomp) Do you recommend to visit first?

I am also trying to plan a Pompeii/vesuvious day trip from naples. I was planning on doing Pompeii first then taking the bus round trip to vesuvious and then the circumvesuviana back to Naples. I didn't know if there was a better way, because it's a little bit of back tracking. I was also wondering if anyone knew if the bus is covered by the campania arte card (3day all region); because it is operated by the unico campania people.

We were there last week. You can pick up the bus for Mt Vesuvious right at the train station for Pomeii. Real easy. We booked the guide Tony from Rick's book for Pomeii. Well worth the money.

Booked an early tour of Pompeii then did Vesuvius. Figured there would be more people at Pompeii so the earlier the better. Took a train from Sorrento.

Oh, and buses run every hour from the train station to Vesuvius until about 2pm.
