Mt. Etna Question for Sicily Tour

We will be repeating the RS Sicily tour with friends in Sept. 2020. Reviewing the itinerary there are a few changes since our 2016 tour (stay in Taormina for example). On “ Day 8” there is a reference to taking in a view of Mt. Etna and a presentation regarding the volcano.
Would love feedback from anyone that has taken the Sicily tour in the last year to confirm whether the tour does or does not actually visit the crater area.
Our group of friends would like to do a side trip to visit Mt. Etna during our additional stay in Taormina following the tour. Please share any guides or tour groups you may have used to visit Mt. Etna.
We are looking forward to returning to this beautiful area as our 9th RS tour.
Thanks in advance for the feedback.

tessstu, we took the tour in February (Etna was spewing ash at the time). The tour went about half way up the volcano, to a rest stop /cafe area, from where you could hike up a bit further or to some old cones near the cafe. We weren't there for long. I don't think you can get much higher by vehicle. We also visited a winery further down on Mt Etna, and we could see it clearly from our hotel in Taormina. Heck, we could see it smoking all the way on the coach from Siracusa.

The presentation was at the hotel in Taormina one evening before dinner.
