Can someone help with info. on Mt. Etna tours? Should we purchase ahead of time or wait till we arrive in Taormina? Many different tours and would like to hear experiences from recent travelers. We are active and could do an all day tour. Will be in Sicily beginning on Oct. 17, 2013.
Any recommendations of particularly great companies? Thanks!

I just returned from three weeks there. We had a fabulous private tour -- which was pricey, but worth every penny. I've seen the Big Busses pull up and my husband nixed that idea. Our driver and guide was through: legendofsicily.com In addition to seeing Etna -- they also took us to a beautiful vineyard which included Heavy Appetizers (can't spell the French word LOL), and meeting the family at the Vineyard. The vineyard is at Mt. Etna, and the guide was very well educated on the wines and also the history of the Island of Sicily. We had as many bathroom/photo stops as we wanted.
They also offer tours to Syracuse, etc. which we also took, but Etna/Vineyard was spectacular for sure! It was a whole day. If you want to hike up the craters, they will wait. Much more civilized.
