I am thinking about a visit to Mount Vesuvius. I have read a few posts about others who have visited. We will be driving on our way back from Pompeii. Does anyone have information about access and viewing?
There is a national park for Vesuvius. The signs were easy to follow from the Autostrada, if you are coming from Pompeii. The raod takes you most of the way to the top. The road is winding and narrow, watch for tour buses that need both lanes to make the corners. The hike to the very top is moderately strenuous, of course it was about 98 the day we climbed. It's smoggy, but you get a great view of the bay of Naples. The volcano itself was rather quiet the day we visited.
Go to vesuvioinrete.it and click onto "how to arrive".
I suggest parking your car at Pompeii and taking the bus up to Vesuvius. Rick lists the pricing and schedule. The busses were very quick and nice!
Thanks
