I am planning on doing the Mount Vesuvius Crator Tour. I read in RS Italy 2008 that the way to get there from Sorrento was to take the CV train to Pompeii and take a bus. Do you get off the train at the ruins? or Pompeii, the city center? Is the bus/tour included in the Campania Card? How much is the bus? Does anyone know?
thanks for any information!
According to my trip notes (8 OCT 2007), the bus from Pompeii to the trailhead at Vesuvius was 17.2 euros and the admission at Vesuvius was 13e (both totals are for two adults). From the Pompeii train station exit walk to the right past the entrance to Pompeii and down the hill. The TI is right in front of you at the bottom of the short hill. This is where we caught the bus. Facing the TI look to the left for a green kiosk, where you can buy advance passes for the bus (the driver does not sell passes). We took the first bus in the AM (theoretically 0930 but showed up at 0955) hiked to the summit, loitered for an hour, and were back at Pompeii by 1300. Take an extra warm layer of clothing, its cold and windy at the top. Can't help with info on the Campagna passes(check their website for info). Buon Viaggio!
