Mount Solaro

Is the chair lift the only way to the top of the mountain? My girl friend is afraid of heights and isn't sure if she can handle the chair lift. I know we can bus or taxi to the chair lift but I wasn't sure after that. We are going for the first time in August!

Thank you.

Evidently you can make the trip by foot, and it takes about an hour. http://www.capri.net/en/s/mount-solaro-cetrella

The bigger question is why you would want to take your girlfriend to an exposed peak if she has a fear of heights? Why not let her sit in a café below and enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine while you take the chairlift by yourself?

She would like to see the view also. I'd rather not leave her at the bottom and experience this without her. So that is why I am looking for other options.

Hiking is another option to see Capri and it's well worthwhile. The chair lift is quite exposing and probably wouldn't be a good choice, so try just doing hikes on the island instead. A big draw of Capri is the views which require some comfort with heights. As soon as you dock in Capri, you take a funicular to main square at the top. I'm confident you can have a really enjoyable trip just by strolling and hiking around (and skipping the chair lift altogether).

You could hike up but for a person afraid of heights I am not sure how that would be a better solution.
Chair lift or foot are your only 2 options.

Yep, it's chair lift or on foot. My Other Half isn't crazy about heights but didn't have any problems with it as it doesn't get nearly as high off the ground as some lifts do. The chairs are pretty antiquated - small and just a flimsy little bar across the front - but get the job done.

But I'll vote for trekking up to the ruins of Villa Jovis for the view from there if she declines Mt Solaro.
