Motorcycle rents are available in most cities and towns. You need your US license with a motorcycle endorsement and an International Driving Permit.

I would google "motorcycle rent Milan" or "motorcycle lake district" or similar to see what's available. I think much of Italy would be a fantastic place to see via motorcycle, and I hope to do it myself someday. But you'd better watch out for aggressive cagers.
