In 2011, we visited Florence and had dinner at a tiny restaurant run by a mother and son. It was recommended by Rick Steves at the time. They only sat 12 people at dinner. Want to suggest it to my daughter but for the life of me I can’t remember the name. Can anyone help
Could it be Osteria Vini e Vecchi Sapori near Piazza della Signoria? It's really small but not sure if it's run by a mother and son.
Zeb? It’s definitely a mother-son restaurant but no idea if it’s the one you’re looking for. It’s in Elizabeth Minchilli’s EatItaly app.
Try finding the 2011 version of Rick's guidebook at the library or online to check for the restaurant. You may be able to find a used version of the book for a small price.
I looked through my 2010 RS Italy book for Florence restaurants and could find no restaurant that had a description 'mother and son' operator.
Good luck on your search
I've just combed a RS 2012 Florence & Tuscany book and find nothing like that.
The nearest was this in the "Eating Cheaply and Simply near Piazza della Signoria"
Osteria Vini e Vecchi Sapori, half a block north of the Palazzo Vecchio, is a colorful 16-seat hole-in-the-wall restaurant serving Tuscan food with a fun, accessible menu of delicious €8 pastas and €10 secondi (Tue-Sat 12:30-15:00 & 19:30-22:00, Sun 12:30-15:00, closed Mon, reserve for dinner; facing the bronze equestrian statue in Piazza della Signoria, go behind its tail into the corner and to your left; Via dei Magazzini 3 red, tel. 055-293-045, run by Mario while wife Rosanna cooks and son Thomas serves).
It is on Google Maps with a high rating of 4.5 and has several good reviews. There is a link to their Facebook page. Photos on the Google Maps page and on the facebook page. Maybe you could have a look and see if it looks familiar?
Maybe that helps?
Osteria Vini e Vecchi Sapori sounds exactly like what i remember! Thank you all for the help!
