Most Scenic Driving Route Rome to San Gimignano

We will be staying in Rome for 4 nights, before renting a car and headed for San Gimignano.
Reading forums, I see that A1 is the fastest route. However, we were thinking about the possibility of taking the E80 for some sea views,
Wondering what you "Forumers" believe to be the most scenic for a drive to San Gimi.

Thanks !

Hi Eric, another user had a recent similar thread and the verdict was to use the A1 and stop in Orvieto. That really makes the most sense for most itineraries. I have not driven that segment of the E80 but I've driven a bit north and can tell you it's not very scenic. That's probably why you won't find much remark online about scenery on that route. Now, if you want to go off the beaten track, try the SS2 as recommended in this guide from Auto Europe -- pg 9. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.autoeurope.com/pdf/travelguides/italy-travel-driving-guide-auto-europe.pdf&ved=0ahUKEwjAmpGB3JbVAhWL7YMKHSNeAJUQFggjMAI&usg=AFQjCNH3pysBxgQA_DZT2XQznXZFo5-EAg

I have been through this area and it is definitely scenic. As with all driving in Tuscany, be sure to account for some road fatigue as you will encounter switch back after switch back after switch back.
