I think it was on the RS forum, but someone had a fantastic idea on covering the open hotel windows in Venice when the air wasn’t turned on yet. Does anyone recall?
Well, I have read it somewhere. duct tape and shear curtains from home. temporary mosquito screen. But when are you going? They seem worse in high summer and well into fall, but not April. Also, with AC (if the allowed months) or a fan it might be less necessary. I have seen some Airbnbs with mosquito net tents over beds. Maybe ask before you pack up the McGyver solution.
Get some deet spray it on before bed as a temporary solution to a temporary problem.
I've been mid-May I doubt you need to worry that time of year.
We are going on the middle of May 2022. It was something you taped over the window, but it wasn’t curtains. I remember thinking what a fantastic idea, now I could kick myself for not writing it down.
We were in Venice late April 2019 and the mosquitos WERE a problem. There were some warm nights that required having open windows. The hotel told us the air conditioning has a specific turn on date [never knew why], and it wasn't on our dates. I was rather surprised to have a mosquito issue in the spring.
Safe travels!
I’m so glad you asked. I thought I bookmarked the topic but now can’t find it. Since I’ll be in Venice in Sept 2022 and staying at one of the monasteries, I was thinking about the same thread a couple days ago. I think she used fine netting or organdy from the fabric store and taped it to the window frame. I’d use painter’s tape so it does leave sticky residue or pull the finish off.
never knew why
Balance of payments and Greenhouse effect.
I doubt hotel managers and locals will appreciate you changing Venice historical facades into Hoboken's MacGyver's mansion, just buy and plug in a couple of these: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/81ykjFBVfBL._AC_SL1500_.jpg
Good suggestion by Dario, and those devices do work well. Probably cost you about five euro.
It might have been fine netting. I remember it was something quite light that was easy to pack. If you find the thread, please come back and post what was said.
I don’t have a lot of faith in small devices that supposedly repel the little buggers. My husband is a magnet for them, even when he has Deet on.
Sheers are fine netting curtains. get them from 2nd hand shop and cut them smaller, or there is a brand from IKEA that cost little and I use them as mosquito netting for my outdoor gazebo. (canadian prices) https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/lill-lace-curtains-1-pair-white-90111980/
They will be lightweight and can be taped to window frame and under $5.
