We are planning a trip to Italy in June and are thinking of staying in the Tuscany area for a week. When I look at the descriptions for some of the villas, they state that they provide mosquito netting. Are mosquitos a problem in June?
Mark - unlike in Wisconsin, by June in Tuscany the snow and ice will have melted and the water will be warm enough for mosquito breeding. You may be glad you have the screens.
Mark I was in Tuscany late June 2008 & I would definitely recommend bug spray
Yup, we met the acquaintance with a good number of them as well. In our case during the 3rd week in June.
Yes, we have little sneaky mosquitos here. If you forget to bring bug spray with you just get some at a pharmacy. Mizquitos are called za-za in Italian--like a Rick recomended restraunt in Florence.
Since they provide mosquito netting assume they don't have air conditioning or screens. That's pretty common in Italy. Yes, there will be mosquitos in June.
Mosquitos are attracted to perfume, but I don't know about mens' colognes. So perhaps just your naturally perfumed self an option to consider as well as the personal repellent, of which roll on are best.
What about Florence, Venice and Sorrento mid-May to very early June? How bad will the mosquitos be? Thanks!
Links to discussion of mosquitos in Venice in the summer, makes for some interesting reading: http://www.ricksteves.com/graffiti/helpline/index.cfm/rurl/topic/26911/venice-in-june.htmlhttp://www.ricksteves.com/graffiti/helpline/index.cfm?topic=120082nd link, 4th post, my favorite:"Years ago in when my friend and I visited Venice, we of course had a hotel with no a/c( we were poor,LOL), so we thought we would leave the window open when we went out to dinner. Unfortunately we left a lamp on in the room. We returned to a room black with mosquitos, it was the most mosquitos I have ever seen in one place, and we R.V, so I have definitely encountered my share of them. Venice is mosquito heaven, all those windows with NO SCREENS and rooms with no A/C."
