mosquitoes in Milan, Lugano, Bellagio and Verona

We are visiting the above locations for the month of May. Will I run into mosquitoes near the lakes, etc? If so, how bad does it get...as they tend to eat me alive. Thanks for your input.

I would plan on getting eaten alive. We're in Vicenza (not far from Verona) and my daughter is getting eaten up. Plus we have had rain for a couple days so there will probably be a big hatch as soon as it warms up a little bit. Italian pharmacys sell all sorts of bug stuff. They have wipes that have bug repalant on it. I like those best. Or just pack what works best for you before you leave. Also a tip Italian for misquetio is za-za.

Michelle, is za-za a regional dialect? I've always called a mosquito a 'zanzara'.

That explains the logo for Trattoria Za-Za in Florence - still one of my favorite restaurants there!

It could be slang or dialect. Vicenza Italian is pretty...unique.

I agree with Marco that zaza must be a dialect. I would stick with offical word zanzara or you might get some strange looks (outside of Vicenza of course!)
