I just purchased tickets from Spiez Switzerland to Milano Central on trenitalia for late June. I didn't register based on earlier post info. My confirmation states I need to use a self service machine to print out the tickets prior to boarding. Simple question: will those machines be at the Spiez train station and if so are they generally easy to use?
Thanks for any feedback.
Honestly that's a question to which I have no definite answer. My "guess" is no. You purchased from the Italian train website, and you want to be able to print them from a Swiss Train Station. I don't know why some people say to not register with a real account on the Trenitalia website. There's nothing wrong with creating an account, and if you have an account then every transaction you perform is stored there for retrieval whenever you need it. Of course, if you will be in Italy before you travel Spiez -> Milan then you can print them during your stay...but that really doesn't make sense. If you had purchased the tickets on the Swiss train website www.sbb.ch then yes, you could have printed them anywhere in Switzerland. I look forward to hearing a definite answer to your question.
I don't recall if there is not a machine at the Spiez station, but I do know their customer service desk was helpful. I have to believe that with a printout of your reservation you will find an answer.
Even if you had registered at the Trenitalia sire, you'd have to print your tickets at a kiosk. II had to.
I have always printed Trenitalia tickets at home. If you have to pick up the tickets in Switzerland, find a customer service desk as soon as you arrive and get the tickets then. If Customer Service can't help you, this is the point where Raileurope earns its €10 fee (or whatever it is in Swiss francs). Find a Raileurope boutique and they will be able to print out the ticket from your confirmation information (I had to do this for a TGV ticket pickup in Belgium).
If you have the emailed ticket on your smartphone (including the PNR code number), you may be able to show that to the conductor, but you should confirm this at customer service.
When you purchased the ticket, did you check the box to receive an SMS message?
I'm worried this could be a real mess. I don't recall checking or seeing the box. I do have a PNR code along with a retrieval number. I couldn't buy from the swiss because the Italians haven't updated the schedule for the end of June.
If anyone else could offer insight it would be appreciated.
If you have the retrieval code you will be fine. You can go to the Manage Tickets area on the website, or call the 800 number during work hours. The phone agents speak English and can give you the info you need.
Thank you very much. I will try that. Also in diving deeper in their website it looks like the email confirmation with the PRN code would constitute me "paperless" ticket. It appears train staff will register me onboard ( if I am reading it correctly)
If anyone can confirm this please do. Otherwise thanks to everyone that responded. Great forum!
I would call (if they have an english option as someone noted above) or email the Trenitalia Customer Service and ask them.
The answer should be what you saw in the email confirmation. If you want someone else to look at it, you can forward the email to [email protected].
The actual ticket should have a bar code as well as a PNR. If in doubt, call customer service or forward the email as suggested above. If you don't have a valid ticket you will have to buy one at full fare (may also include a surcharge) from the conductor.
