more time in Venice than Lake Garda?

We are staying in Lake Garda for 3 nights and Venice for 2 nights. Wondering if that is not enough time for Venice. We would have to take a day away from Lake Garda to add to Venice. Not sure what to do!! I know there is to see around the lake and also Verona which we can see on our way to Venice. We cannot extend our stay as we already have our flight out of Venice.

short answer, YES. Take a night from Garda and add to Venice.

You have to prioritize based on what you enjoy doing. But if you haven't been to Venice yet (which I gather is true), it's much more popular with American tourists than is Lake Garda, and with good reason. There are lots of lakes like Lake Garda, but there is no other place on earth like Venice.

No question. Too much time at Lake Garda, not enough for Venice.

No question. I liked Lake Garda but could easily stayed two more days then the two days we did in Venice

Hello Carolyn, Its a tough call. We've been to Venice twice and hope to return for a 3rd time. Providing its not too hot, Venice is truly magical. Particularly in the very early morning hours and late in the evening. Before the crowds arrive and after they have departed. Its also quite easy to loose the crowds by simply navigating away from the main tourist areas or taking a vaporetto to an island like San Giorgio. We like to think of Venice as an adult Disneyland (not the best comparison) its truly magical. On the other hand, we spent a precious and memorable day and a half at Lago de Garda. We drove in from Bolzano and had lunch in northern town of Nago. It was spectacular. The rugged mountains jutting our from the deep blue waters, and the windsurfers tacking into the wind. The towns in the north seem very sports minded. We are planning on returning to cycle the Ponale which is near Riva del Garda. We drove the east side of the lake and stay one wonderful night in Sirmione. It depends on what your priorities are. Do you like nature, outdoor sports? or Romance and timeless beauty? Interesting RS doesnt cover Lago de Garda . I guess you just have plan on going back- we are. Cordiali Saluti,
David

Thank you everyone for all of your help!! We have decided to do 2 nights in Lake Geard and 3 in Venice! I think we will be happy that we did that since all who have been there say it is wonderful. I don't think it should be hot in April, hope not anyway!! Thanks again,
Carolyn

More Venice. There is also Verona, Vicenza, Padua on the way to Venice. Frankly, there is way too much even once you get to Venice. Despite Venice being a bit of a Disneyland for some bits, it is still the only place in the world that is Venice. You can't get it without staying there and you can't get it in one or two days.

It won't be hot in April, especially to someone from Florida. You'll be lucky for it to be what you would call warm. :-) Have a great time.

I don't know anything about Lake Garda, hence the question: If it's raining, especially if it's cold, what is there to do on Lake Garda? To me April is no lake weather. ;)
