Would you do Tivoli as a day trip with the Villa d'Este and what else in that day, or make two trips from Rome? Would you take the train or bus in the rain?

Sorry I was incomplete. I have read Ron's article. Would you do the town of Tivoli, Villa d'Este and Hadrian's in one day or make two trips if you had time. Would you ride the bus all the way or rent a car if you were doing all three in a day? Finally, if you were doing the Tivoli area, is there anything else that you consider a must see? mahalo!
