We are planning on staying in this area at thr end of September. Has anyone had an experience with this area, any must see/do things, tips, etc.? Thanks in advance
Hi missy,
I don't have specifics, but here is a video for you to get a start https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4XCIANUSXc
We will be staying in this district in a couple of days for a week. I can post my thoughts upon our return......
We stayed in the Monti District at the Grand Hotel Palatino a few years back and loved the area. We were able to walk just about everywhere in a short amount of time and enjoyed having the colosseum so close. We felt like we were in the center of it all and there were plenty of restaurants and shops. We were also near public transportation if needed. We enjoyed it so much we are staying in this area again at an Airbnb this time.
mrm1111 - that's where we are staying!
For a very good overview of the Monti neighborhood. https://www.romeing.it/monti-neighbourhood-rome/
One of my favorite areas in Rome. Tons of places to visit and see. I had never stayed here until my fourth trip to Rome and even when not staying here, I still make a point of going back.
Hi Herfnerd, you're going to love it! The rooms are really nice, we had a balcony and just enjoyed the view. The staff was really helpful and when we asked for a recommendation to a good non-touristy restaurant they recommended Ristorante Mario's, Piazza del Grillo, 5, 00184 Roma RM, Italy. It is only a 7 minute walk from the hotel and it was fabulous, we went there twice during out stay. They treated us like family. You can take a walk at night to look at the Colosseum and every where you turn there is an ancient part of some building just lying in front of you. We were able to walk everywhere, but the Cavour metro stop is not far either.
Thanks for the recommendation, mrm1111! We will definitely check it out!!
I think you'll enjoy it! I hope Enzo is still there.
Thanks so much, everyone! We are staying in an Airbnb in the area and are so excited to have a view of the Colosseum from our window. We’ll definitely have to check out the local recommendations.
