Is the Monti neighborhood in Rome a good location? Is it clean and desirable?
Yes it is. Elizabeth Minchilli, a food writer who also does tours, lives there. Her website and Instagram account include references to it and I believe her daughter, Sophie Minchilli, who also does food tour lists eating places for that neighbourhood on her IG account.
I stayed there in February and March. It's a nice neighborhood to stay in, with a lot of restaurants scattered about. It will mean somewhat-longer walks to a lot of the traditional tourist sights, though, so make sure you're OK with that. I found myself having to take circuitous routes sometimes in order to avoid a hill or a large, blocked-off historic site, so don't just consider the bird's-eye view; look at the streets you'll be taking if you want to walk to something like the Piazza Navona.
I have always stayed there, it is a nice neighborhood. From Termini station I can get to favorite hotel in Monti walking in 12 minutes.
Yes. I’ve stayed in Monti every time I’ve been to Rome. Lots of restaurants, close to public transportation and a more neighborhood feel than some other parts.
Our go to neighborhood to stay in Rome for the 4 times we have been. as others have said, lots of restaurants, neighborhood feel. As others have said a bit more of a walk to some sites but not too much for us. A bonus .. short walk to Termini which makes it easy for airport etc. but not in the station area per se.
Thanks everyone. Claire, I will certainly check out the Minchillis.
