Monthly Bus Pass Rome

Reading the ATAC website it looks like you need to provide a photocopy of your passport and fill out a form to purchase a monthly bus pass for Rome. Buying the monthly pass is cheaper than buying a weekly pass plus another day. I would purchase this at the Termini after we get off the train from Bologna. Advice appreciated.

Mary, consider this? You may not even need a weekly or monthly pass. We've spent as long as a week in Rome without wanting/needing to use public transit more than a handful of times. A few € 1.50 single-ride BIT tickets tucked away for when you might use them might be all you need for a week. That, or you could buy a weekly pass and augment it with a single BIT or two if necessary.

https://www.atac.roma.it/en/tickets-and-passes/bit

They also have Multi BIT card that can be purchased in up to 10-ride amounts. (€ 15.00 for 10 rides)
https://www.atac.roma.it/en/tickets-and-passes/10-bit

A single BIT ticket is good for bus transfers up to 100 minutes after activation but they only cover a single journey on the metro or urban trains. You CAN switch metro trains, say, from A to B line on a single ticket as long as you don't exit a station's turnstiles and come back in..

I appreciate the replies but what about the need for a photocopy of passport for the monthly pass. My knees and stamina are not what they used to be and still would like to get the monthly pass for those " my body has had it moments"

Not sure what you are asking

If you know you want to purchase this pass and you know it requires a photocopy of passport then bring that along on your trip

We carry photocopies of passports when we travel just in case

One of the monthly passes is personal, meaning that it carries your name and you can’t pass it to others. If a ticket controller comes on board of the bus to verify that you have the ticket, you must exhibit the pass and an ID to prove that the pass, which is in your name, is being used by the same person. I think there are also passes that can be passed to others (like family members or friends, but they cost more.

I will only be in Rome for about a week. I too need a pass to get to my destination fairly refreshed and as delightful as walking might be there will be a substantial amount of that during the day. This is the response from ATAC if this helps:

Regarding your question, you can purchase the CIS weekly pass (29 euros) in advance at this link. Please note that tickets are not sent by post, courier, or email, nor can they be downloaded from the website. Therefore, once you arrive in Rome, you will need to collect them at one of the following ATAC ticket offices along the metro lines, by presenting your order confirmation:

Metro Line A:
Battistini – Valle Aurelia – Lepanto – Ottaviano – Anagnina

Metro Line B/B1:
Termini – Ponte Mammolo – Piramide – Eur Fermi – Laurentina – Conca d’Oro

Alternatively, several apps allow you to purchase the 7-day ticket via smartphone (a list is available at the bottom of the “Tickets and Passes” page). In this case, each passenger must purchase the ticket using their own smartphone.

You may also buy phisical tickets upon arrival in Rome at ATAC ticket offices (https://www.atac.roma.it/en/utility/sales-channels/ticket-offices), at authorized retailers (tobacconists, newsagents, etc.), or at the automatic ticket vending machines available in all metro stations.

Janet, the OP wants a monthly pass: different criteria for obtaining those.

I'd rather go home with a couple of unused "100 minutes" tickets than wasting my vacation time trying to get a pass designed for locals and long-term guests.

Especially if I was worried at the idea of providing a copy of my passport.

After all, a single "100 minutes" ticket costs € 1.5

With the requirements for a monthly pass, thought maybe 4 weeklies would work for her. I will be there in 21 weeks buying a weekly for my 5 day visit. Depending on itinerary, accommodation location and weather, pass choice is very specific to the traveler.
