My husband and I are beginning to plan a trip to Italy with a few other couples. We are interested in renting a house or villa together. Any suggestions on sites with the best places to rent and best rates?
Regan, you might want to take a look at the www.slowtrav.com website. They are a good resource for rentals.
You may also want to consider moving base some during your month. Maybe staying a week in four areas or 10 days in three. I much prefer to stay in an area and rent apartments for a longer time. But you may find that when you have explored an area and want to venture out father, staying overnight may become more practical. With one base you wind up paying for lodging twice.
hi regan, i have used this site in the past www.tuscany.net and got very good service (fast answers, pay on site etc.) but i did not stay for a month.
www.romeby.com and www.rentvillas.com are good websites.
I used romeby to rent a fabulous apartment in Rome in 06'. Rentvillas is American based (santa barbara I think) rental company and although I've never used them, they were always responsive to my inquiries. Plan to use them for a surprise birthday gathering in the future.
Lastly, I met these people through friends who live in Italy. Their place was wonderful. Il Poggio. I think they are now listed on romeby.com
You will LOVE Italy
Here are some links to places we've stayed:
Roman Villa (north of Rome) http://belvedere-italia.com/index.php
Siena: http://www.sienaquietvilla.net/
Otherwise, there are tons of places for rent online.
I stayed at a lovely apartment in the hills of tuscany. www.lafornella.com The owner is from Arizona and is very accomodating! When we arrived there was fresh bread on the table along with all the fixings for a wonderful italian meal..plus wine from their vineyard! Check it out! It really is very convenient to the train for Florence, and we were able to take day trips to Pisa, Lucca, Cortona. There ae many nearby wineries, too!
