Monteverde area and taxis

I will be staying in the Monte Verde area for our Rome visit. Does anyone know if this is within the set taxi rate of 40 euro from Fiumicino Airport? I don't want to insist on that price with a taxi driver if I'm wrong! Thanks!

You're probably out of luck. Wikipedia has this about Monteverde. Monteverde is a district of Rome (part of Gianicolense quarter) Italy. It is located just outside the Aurelian walls, south of the Gianicolo and southeast of Trastevere. Monteverde means 'green mountain' and is named after the hill that the district is located on. This hill is not one of the seven hills of Rome as it is outside the classical city. Since the taxi rate is for locations within the walls, you may be stuck. Best wishes.

We were a party of 5 and needed Quint lodging, which was very hard to find, as well as expensive. We found a lovely apartment there. Is is a bad area??

It's not bad in the unsafe sense. It's just nowhere near the major sights. You might want to bone up on public transit in Rome to get you to the places you'll want to see. Did you do much looking for an apartment in the historic center? Are you locked into the Monteverde place?

If you're already committed to that location, there is a tram (#8) that runs up Viale di Trastevere up to Largo del Torre Argentina which will plunk you down in a good location - between Campo de' Fiori and the Forum. It comes along every 4-5 minutes, usually. You'll want to be sure to get a pass that will allow you to ride it as often as you like.
