Is the water temperature comfortable for swimming in May in Monterosso (Cinque terre)?
by comfortable, I mean above 70 degrees at least.
Packing VERY light, even a bathing suit counts at my level of lightness!
When in May and how many days are you going to be there? When we were there in Mid-May it was more "standing up to knees" rather than "swimming" temps.
What Patty said.
Not as warm as you'd like.
Even in a Southern Italy it might be too cool for my taste. Not as cold as we have here in the Pacific Ocean where you freeze even in Summer, but it's not as warm as the Caribbean Sea either.
After June it gets better.
As a general rule, the swimming season in Italian seas is June to early September.
Unless you are there at the very end of May, I'd say you can leave your swim suit at home. Check out this website:

It will be cold enough that I wouldn't want to swim.
Will be there May 9-15. Sounds like it will too cold for me.
Thanks for all the great responses.
