Has anyone done a ferry trip from Monterosso to Portofino? Is it great OR should I just stick to the ferry from MOnterosso and around the 5 villages plus Porto venere?

I haven't done the ferry from Monterosso to Portofino, but we plan on taking it this June while we're back in Monterosso for a week. We did, however, take the ferry from Monterosso, to the five villages, and down to Porto Venere. That was a fantastic trip that we plan on taking again! It's easy to take the train from Monterosso to Portofino and back. We bought tickets at the last minute in Monterosso when the ferry sails.

That's great info-----will definitely be doing the one you recommend. Didn't think of the train--thats a good thought and probably easier for Portofino (if we have time). Is Portofino that different to all the other towns and villages. We don't want to shop. JUst like quaint places. Thanks again

Unfortunately, the train doesn't go to Portofino. The closest train stations are in Santa Margherita Ligure and Camogli. there is a bus that runs from SML to Portofino.

I would stay around CT and Portovenere. I was disappointed in Portofino in gen. But loved CT coast by land or boat. Also S. Margarita is a lovely area to stroll and hike up.
