Monterosso lodging for 4

Need lodging for 2 adults and 2 teenage boys (16 and 18) arriving June 23 for 3 nights. OK with stairs, view would be nice, nothing fancy, just clean. Would 2DB be cheaper than quad/family room, budget $150-200. Plan on hiking upper trail, appreciate any advice. Boys will be ready to hike, kayak and swim. We are in good shape and will have 2 1/2 days.

I don't have any lodging advice but I can suggest where to swim. Take the coast trail toward Corniglia out of Manarola. You will see several places with access to the water from the rocks. We swam at the first one, you descended from the trail and there were rocks for sitting. Then you entered the water by a metal ladder ( some people dived in from the rocks). It was great. Past this spot there is a little cove that had kayaks , maybe for rent. We didn't explore that option. You will see people swimming from the rocks right at the harbor but it is not as nice.

abpoche,

I usually travel solo, so not sure what options might be available for a group of four. A good place to start would be the Italy 2014 Guidebook, as that lists a number of good lodgings in Monterosso in various parts of town and in different price ranges. You could also check THIS website which lists many of the lodgings in town. For a group of four, I suspect you might have to increase your budget. US$200 is only about €145, which I don't think is going to be sufficient.

Two of the best hotels in Monterosso are Hotel Villa Steno and Hotel Pasquale (owned by the same family), but a quad room at Villa Steno ranges from €215-290 in high season (~US$293-395). You could also try Villa Adriana which lists B&B Family Room for 4 at €260 (~US$354).

Some of the private accommodations will likely be lower priced, but you'll have to go through the list on the above website. I would highly recommend getting accommodations locked-down as soon as possible. For travel in late June, it may be challenging to find something. As many places there may still be closed for the season, it may take some time to get a reply, so patience will be necessary.

Hopefully the No. 2 trails will all be open at that time.

Happy travels!

does it matter what town you stay in since everything is so close? Looked all day today and still didn't find anything and will to pay $220 a night. Any other suggestions for towns in Cinque Terre?

abpoche,

No, it doesn't really matter which of the five towns you stay in, although Corniglia isn't as popular given it's location. Which town to choose may depend to some extent on what type of accommodations you want? Monterosso has the greatest choice in "conventional" hotels, whereas the other towns are mostly small B&B's and Affitacamere, some of which don't serve breakfasts.

If you'd like to consider staying in Vernazza, have a look at THIS LIST as you may be able to find something less expensive there. One facility that's frequently recommended by a regular here are THESE ROOMS in Vernazza. I've never stayed there, so don't have any personal comments to offer.

You could also have a look at THIS HOTEL in Manarola. The prices seem quite reasonable and it looks very comfortable. Have a look at the Virtual Tours on their website to get some idea what the hotel and town look like. Manarola is a also very beautiful, and I'm sure you'd enjoy your time there. If you decide to stay there, I'd suggest taking the train to Monterosso to begin the trail hike, as it's best to get the most challenging part out of the way first.

Good luck!

We stayed at Hotel Colonnina in Monterosso last May: http://www.lacolonninacinqueterre.it/en/home.html, which was from the RS book. I believe it was about 140 euro and we also stayed for three nights. We wanted to stay in Monterosso b/c of the beach and it had more restaurants, shops, and bars. After visiting the other towns, we made the right decision, at least for. Our interests.

Do most places have air conditioning? What is the night temps in June? Not worried about the days since we will be out at the beach!

Looked at some budget rentals without ac.

abpoche,

The hotel that I suggested in Manarola appears to have air conditioning, but you'd have to check the websites for hotels that you're considering for information on that. The hotels that I've used in Monterosso have all had air conditioning.

June can be warm there, so I'd definitely want A/C at least available if needed.
