Monterosso dining

Arrived Monterosso an hour ago, staying three nights. B&B gave us four dinner recommendations, but I thought I would survey Rick's forum. Ideas? Costs?

Grazie!!

Belvedere, near the water by the Old Town. The "amphora" seafood dish is huge, delicious and memorable. Bring some friends and your camera!

We had a great dinner at Ciak (Old Town) last month. There were four of us, and we decided to try something new, so we ordered the fresh seafood appetizer platter, which turned out to be plate after plate of all kinds of seafood (including cockles, octypus, many iterations of anchovies, etc). The seafood ravioli was outstanding. Portions are huge, and you can peek into the kitchen window from outside the restaurant to see how fresh all the seafood is. I think there are many good options in Monterosso if you enjoy seafood. Have fun!

Cantina di Miky: 90 Via Fegina. Try to land an outdoor table with a view of the sea.
Oh, and if you like beer, they have great Italian craft brews: order a sampler.

jhg,

My usual favourites are....

  • Cantina di Miky (new town - I believe they close on Wednesday, so you'll need to check - don't confuse this with the more upscale Miky at the end of the new town - as mentioned try to get one of the outdoor seats, although it can be a bit crowded there when it's busy)
  • L' Alta Marea (old town, up Via Roma a short distance - one of my favourites and where I often enjoy my signature "arrival in C.T." dish, Trofie al Pesto)
  • Ristorante Belevedere (as mentioned previously - old town overlooking the water - get there early as it gets busy - don't worry about the occasional loud rumbling sounds, as the tracks pass right over the restaurant)
  • Al Carugio (old town, in a small alley just off Via Roma)

Buon Appetito!

Thanks to all who weighed in. We ate at Ciao and had a ball. Wonderful gnocchi!! And by all means, reserve, and specifically request outside, as failing to do so will leave you indoors.

Also, if you want a rather luxurious stay, look up Fausto and Mariapia at Incantanto Giordino, for 2015! A delightful room, very updated in a 500 year old structure, and a lovely garden for breakfast, and evening limoncino handmade by Fausto - the best!

jhg,

Thanks for the update. Ciak seems to be very popular and it's always packed every time I've walked by. I'm not a big seafood fan so I've never dined there.
