Monterosso Beach Access

Good Morning, I am planning a 3 night stay in Monterosso with the family during our July trip, so the main reason for staying in Monterosso is for the beaches for the kids. I'm a little confused about beach access. In Rick's books he mentions both the public & private beaches, but a Trip Advisor poster who stayed in town mentioned that there was no beach access except the public beach which was full.
My question, can you go to any beach as long as you are willing to rent an umbrella & chair? Or are the private beaches for people staying at the properties located on the beach? I rather rent an umbrella for the day than pay an extra 100 euros a night to stay on the beach!

Thank you

Hello, I'm writing from Manarola, one of the < a href="http://www.cinqueterre.com/eng/">Cinque Terre Italy.
For sure it won't be a problem to find space either in the public beaches or in the "private" ones renting umbrella and chair, you can forget this trouble...it can be crowd sometimes espetially during the weekends but never unaccessible.

I take the chanche to point your attention on our pages (foolowing the link a above) about the 5 terre and the next link for a section of Cinque Terre Video.
Bye from Italy and happy holidays

Hi Joann,

There are some private beaches for people staying in hotels, but there is ample place for people willing to rent chairs and an umbrella. There actually is a small section in the southern part of town that is free access, but it is the smallest and rockiest parts of the beach area. I rented two chairs under an umbrella with a cabin to change in and lock away our bags for the day. The prices are charged per day, and I would highly recommend that you get there early as they do tend to sell out in the busy times... especially if it is a weekend in July or August.

Thank you for your replies. The good news is, while we are there in July, it will not be a weekend. We'll be there Wednesday, Thursday & Friday.
Thank you!

If you are going to Monterosso for the beach, I would choose another place. We spent a week in CT and visited every village and every beach.

I was disappointed in the beaches. And in March the water was cold. You should find it warmer in July.

Don't expect the beach to look like other beaches you have visited in the West.

Based on what I saw, you can go to any beach without having to rent anything; all of them appeared to have an open entrance.

Thank you Carl. Yes, I've heard that the beaches are not the same as I'm used to. I live on the East coast within a 15/20 minute drive of 4 or 5 great beaches and all are very different. We are using this part of the trip as down time and I know the kids will have a great time regardless of how nice the beaches are. But thank you very much for the heads up.
