MONTEROSSO AL MARE to Pisa, Italy airport

Hi,

I am staying in Monterosso Al Mare in the beginning of Aug and need to get a flight from Pisa to Madrid. The flight leaves at Pisa at 6:45am. What train do you recommend? Do they leave this early? Also, how far is the train station from the airport?

I doubt you'll find a train so early, but you can check the schedules by yourself on:

www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en

In the "From" field start typing and pick Monterosso from the drop down menu, not Monterosso Marche as that's another village in southern Italy.

To: Pisa fermata Aeroporto (Pisa, airport station)

Date: the day before your departure to Spain

Time: 23. This way you'll see trains departing before midnight and, clicking the "next solutions" button, also the other ones leaving during the night.

khettel, I would definitely stay in Pisa the night before a flight that early. Picking a couple of random early-August dates, the first train I see from Monterosso to Pisa - aside from one that leaves at 11 minutes after midnight - doesn't leave until 5:28 AM.

There are no direct trains from Monterosso to the Pisa airport: you'll have to change at Pisa Centrale or Pisa Centrale + one other station, and will take at least 1.5 hours or more.

Yeah, I have tried to leave the Cinque Terre early in the morning, not for a flight, just trying to get an early start. Regional trains are not running much before 6:00 AM, you might be able to find some intercity train that stops...but it would need to be stopping at something like 4:00 AM.

Better make plans to spend the night before the flight in Pisa.

How do I research intercity trains? I might have to take the train from Monteroso to Florence and fly out of Florence.

Travelling to Florence will take longer and will probably involve several train changes. Whether you'll be using a Regionale or Intercity trains will depend on which departure you choose. As someone else mentioned, the first departure from Monterosso is at 05:28, arriving Pisa at 06:44 or Firenze SMN at 08:07.

The Trenitalia website posted above has all the trains schedules.
You just have to enter the name of the stations in Italian, therefore PISA CENTRALE or FIRENZE SANTA MARIA NOVELLA, which is Florence main station (however a FIRENZE RIFREDI is closer to the airport).

If your flight is early in the morning, you need to spend the night closer to the city of departure. I wouldn't stay at the Cinque Terre unless your flight is after noon. Ken gave you the earliest you can be in those cities, but why subjecting yourself to such early waking up.
