Monterosso al Mare to Milan

I am having difficulty finding the train schedule/fares from Monterosso to Milan. Rick's book says there are 8/day direct, but I can't find that on the Trenitala website. Can anyone tell me if there are direct trains, or if I should look at the schedule from La Spezia or Levanto?
By the way, a big thanks to the person who posted about the 9 Euro Mini fares! I just booked Milan to Venice for 9 Euros!

Nancy, There are indeed numerous direct trains from Monterosso to Milano Centrale, along with others that have at least one change. The trains are usually Intercity, with compulsory reservations. The current second class fare is listed at €23. When will you be travelling? Cheers!

Ken, Thanks for your reply. We are traveling in May. When I enter the cities and dates on Trenitalia website I get this message: Outward journey Stazione di partenza: there are no station which correspond to the search criteria. Any idea what I am doing wrong? Thanks again,
Nancy

How do you find mini fares??? I'm looking at the trenitalia website right now and I'm finding the fare from Stresa to Verona to be 51 euros per person!

Angela, it depends on the date/journey/time. For example, I just checked Stresa to Verona on April 12, departing at 16:39 and the Mini is 28 Euros. After you select your journey and click "Continue" it will show you the Flessibile fare, the Base fare, and the Mini (if available). If you don't see Mini, go back and try a different time. Buon Fortuna!

Thanks Nancy! I'm looking at May 19, and I don't see a mini fare available. I need to leave Stresa early in the morning since I have very little time for Verona, only one day. I have to wonder if I'd get a better price booking Stresa to Milan and Milan to Verona. Or Milan to Venice and just get off the train early? Things that make you go hmm....

Just enter Monterosso instead of Monterosso al Mare in the departure station box. Then it will work.

Two conversations going here but it looks like Nancy's question was answered. Angela, are you sure you are on Trenitalia? I see fares on May 19 of 27,90 euro and 36 euro from Stresa to Verona. The cheaper fare is using a Regional train from Stresa to Milan, and there is no mini fare shown. The 36 euro fare uses the IC train from Stresa to Milan, and there is a mini fare of 28 euro. The earliest train shown departs Stresa at 8:55 and is on a Regional train, so the fare is 27,90. You'll be in Verona 3 hours later.

Yeah, sorry about hijacking the thread... I was on the wrong site, and the prices I was quoted was in dollars, thus why 51 "Euros" seemed way too high! And I could not find any mini fares going to Verona on Trenitalia, but I was able to get the mini fare from Verona to Venice the next day, so at least that is helpful! Now if I can just find good fares from Venice to Florence and Siena to Rome I'll be golden. I think I can figure it all out myself now, THANKS everyone!
