Montepulciano to Venice

We're a part of a My Way Italy tour in June. We're planning to rent a car to do a post-tour trip from Rome to Montepulciano, where we'll stay for a week, before departing home from Venice.

Any advice for traveling from Montepulciano to Venice? We're looking at a car rental return in Bologna (about a 2.5 hour drive), then a train from Bologna to Venice (about 1.5 hours). Our return flight to the US is at 11 a.m., so we'd plan to do this the day prior to our departure.

Thoughts, suggestions?

Makes sense. Good connections from Bologna and always nice to spend an evening in Venice.

Why depart from Venice? Your flight options at Venice are limited.

We're flying in to Venice from the US; Venice is where our My Way trip begins.

Have you look at open jaw or multi city tickets? Come home from Milan or even Rome. Probably cheaper and more convenient. If you are already booked then these comments are for other readers.
