Montepulciano to Rome?

Home base is a villa near Montepulciano.
What's best way to get into Rome for day trips?
We will have a car, but willing to take train to avoid parking, driving in Rome.

If you drive Chiusi-Chianciano Terme, you'll have a lot more trains with trains direct to Rome, some pretty fast. There is a parking lot at the station. Some of the trains only go to Tiburtina station in Rome, but there is a Metro stop there, so easy to get to elsewhere in Rome.

You're on to something with the train. The problem in Rome is the parking. If you haven't parked in Italy, you may be surprised. We took several pictures on our trip where cars were parked so close together that it was impossible to get one out of its space. One particularly funny one we saw was two cars parallel parked and then a third car parked with its back end facing the side doors of the other cars. Its front end was pointing to the street. What in the world...!!!! Additionally, there is a lot of traffic in Rome and it may prove pretty hectic and I feel it would force you to concentrate on the driving rather than Rome itself.

Personally, I think you should take a train. If you were to want to get to your car, but literally couldn't access it, that would be a real time eater and a huge bummer!

Happy travels whatever you decide!
