Can only choose one within my schedule? Thoughts
We chose Montalcino and enjoyed it. We went to Pienza for lunch that day.
Montepluciano.
We stayed there 2 nights and loved it, would stay again.
Pienza would be my second choice in the area.
We did stop also in Montalcino- and honestly there was not much there- other than wine shops, could have skipped.
Montepulciano was an interesting town to walk around in. We actually visited both in one day
I've stayed in both towns and enjoyed both for different reasons. However, you haven't provided enough information about your plans while staying in one of those towns to make a recommendation. It would also help to know if you'll have a car.
We visited Montepulciano in Sept as a day trip by car and seemed more touristy.
The next trip to Italy we stayed in Montalcino for two nights, and then added a third. We are into wine and did some wine tasting in town one day, then visited a few wineries in the countryside the next day. This trip was the end of April and didn’t seem very touristy.
But both towns are great places to visit and have great wine.
Montepulciano is more charming in my opinion, having gone to both 2 times.
But it's a tough choice.
One or the other, you will have a great visit
Definitely Montepulciano - my favorite town in Tuscany! There are so many great shops and art galleries. Don't get me started on the restaurants!!! Montepulciano is also home to Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and there are many great wineries to visit and do tastings at.
If you decide Montepulciano, let me know and I'll share restaurants, wineries, and accommodation suggestions.
Have a great time! -TJ
We plan a day trip from Cortona to Montepulciano in late April. Would love some winery/restaurant suggestions!
Thanks everyone! Haven't decided on a plan, as yet, but will take your suggestions!
