Montecatini Termi and Amalfi Coast Maiori- info needed.

As soon as school lets out for the summer I'm off to Tuscany and the Amalfi Coast. Both our home base towns are not in Rick's guide books. I am traveling with a school group and did not make the reservations. This is my third trip to Italy but first to the Amalfi Coast. I have been doing a lot of research on these towns but they do not appear to be popular with tourists. Although Montecatini is a very popular spa town. Perhaps that is a good thing but I would love to hear from anyone who has stayed in either of these towns.

Itinerary: From Montecatini we visit Siena, Lucca, San Gimignano. While in Maiori, which I know has a great beach, we visit Capri, Positano and Amalfi. Thanks

Years ago I took a tour of Tuscany through our local art museum. We stayed in Montecatini Terme as a base for 8 days and took day trips from there to all the important art towns in Tuscany, those you name and more. It was a great centrally located place to base and the town was nice. Never went to a spa but did walk around town and explored a little bit. Our hotel was on a little plaza and it was busy until dark and then it was nice and peaceful. Our meals were included so we ate at a restaurant at a sister hotel (larger than ours) so I didn't experience any other restaurants but I've heard there are some good ones.
