I styed there a few days with friends a few years back. Lots of hotels. And spas (pretty expensive as I recall).

On the main rail line - so useful for Florence, Lucca, Pisa etc.

There is a funicular that takes you to Montecatini Alto village. A pleasant half day trip, where we had lunch and gelato.

Montecatini is a touristy town. However you won’t find many Americans there. It’s mostly Italians and Europeans who go there to enjoy the thermal spas and the health benefits associated with them. The tourist base is therefore more “mature” in age (at our age we all get some body pains and skin aging that need TLC). Not all spa hotels are expensive, so you can find choices for all budgets. The town is quaint p and clean, and Montecatini Alto (the old town on the hill) is lovely and relaxing. Perfect also as a base for that area of Tuscany. Both Lucca and Pistoia (two beautiful medieval cities) are within easy reach.

We stayed there for a week many years ago. Used it for a base for visiting a lot of other Tuscan towns on day trips. It was very convenient for that. It was lovely in the evenings, lots of nice restaurants, etc. We enjoyed it as a base to come home to after day tripping to other places. We were able to visit Florence, Siena, Pisa, Prato, Pistoia, Cortona, Arezzo, Volterra, San Gimignano, and Lucca, all from there. We also went to a winery/ trattoria in the hills for dinner one night.
