We are traveling from Cinque Terre to Lucca and was hoping for a quick stop in Montecatini for a mud bath. Is this possible and, if so, suggestions.

If using public transportation this would be a long day, particularly since Montecatini is 30 minutes east of Lucca, which would add an hour onto your itinerary by having to double back.
Suggest looking at the TripAdvisor "Things to do" pull-down menu for Montecatini to see ratings and reviews for the various spas in the city, which range from the Belle Epoch elegance of the Tamerici to more spartan (though cheaper) options around town.
