Monte San Savino > Lake Como > Switzerland

Hi there!

We are going to be in Monte San Savino for a wedding and then went to explore Lake Como & Switzerland (we'd be leaving Monte San Savino on Saturday 9/14). We have not yet booked our return ticket to the states so we are flexible on where to fly back from (thinking somewhere in Switzerland around Saturday or Sunday 9/21 or 9/22). We are traveling as 2 adults... with our (then) 15 month old.

I'm feeling totally overwhelmed on how to split up the trip and how to travel from one area to the next. I really want to see the Lake Como region..but really not sure what area to stay. We may be renting a car for the wedding as we arrive earlier in the week to the Florence area; however our baby hates the car SO we'd actually prefer utilizing trains. I saw routes like the Bernina Express and thought this could be a nice way to move from Lake Como to Switzerland, but just looking for opinions and advice from others. We're thinking we'd like to stay 2-3 nights in each location as we'll have to get settled with baby each time. :) We've traveled in Europe quite a few times, but this will be the first international trip with baby and we're definitely a little nervous, haha.

Thanks for any and all advice/ opinions :)

All of those areas are served by train. Check schedules, for instance, from Arezzo to Varenna-Esino station on Lake Como - they require transfers at Florence and Milan. From Varenna it's straight north to Tirano for the start of the Bernina Express route. On the Swiss side, you might want to overnight around Pontresina or Samedam, then fly home from Zurich. Stopping in Luzern before Zurich, if you have extra days, would just add another hour to the train ride.

Looking Up Train Schedules and Routes Online gives you the Deutsche Bahn train schedule link and tips for using it. Italian and Swiss web sites work, too, but not very far across each respective border.

If you don't use the car, then trains between Arezzo and Monte San Sevino are on the local Ferroviario Toscana line, direction Sinalunga.
