This is probably worse than no answer but here goes - when I drove there 3 or 4 years ago I happened to notice bus stops on the road from the autostrada into Cassino, then was looking up (nearly straight up) towards the abbey and saw a bus. Does it go up the hill - dunno. I will say it really is pretty much straight up. My Dad was involved in some of the very early action there. There is a website http://www.italy-weekly-rentals.com/webpages/ACCESSORI/TOTHESOUTH/MONTECASSINO.htm which says (ripped from that website - credits as due): By Bus: . At the Formia train station there are busses that depart approximately every hour from 0800 to 2100 every day (cost is lit. 3,500 one way). . Get off at the center of Cassino and from there, you will take the bus to take you to the Abbey (Abazia). Ask driver for stop.Useful Information:Parking is available at the top of Monte Cassino. It is guarded parking. You should tip approx. lit 2,000.Public bathrooms+ are available near the parking area (outside the Abbey) for a fee of approx. lit .500. Visit the Polish cemetery which you will see just before you arrive to the Abbey (at the top of the mountain). There is no fee to enter and there is limited parking available. = - = Note that the prices quoted are in Lira. That makes it at least 10 years old. Useful?
= - = Can you get British TV over the net? On Channel 4 (channel4.com) late tonight there is a show. At 03:25 am London time Sunday night/Monday morning (9:25 pm Central time) Monte Cassino: The Soldier's Story if that's any help. Its an hour long.
