Montalcino and Montepulciano in one day?

We are staying at an agriturismo about 10k north of Siena during the first week of August. We will have a car. I am wondering if it is too much to try to do both towns in one day. We would like to visit at least one winery (leaning towards Poggio Antico or Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona), do La Foce Gardens, wander around and have lunch (maybe Ristorante Boccon Divino??) in either town. Thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I did this daytrip with two friends a couple of years ago. We got an early start and were in Montalcino for lunch, then visited Montepulciano in the afternoon. We didn't do any tours but it was a very easy day.

We are in a villa south of Siena and did Pienza and Montepulciano yesterday. The drive took over an hour to get to Pienza. We spent a few hours there and then continued to Montepulciano. We got back to our villa after 8pm. It was a long, exhausting day. I suppose you could do both of these cities in the same day but if you have the time to split them up I would.

Thanks for the replies. Posted the same question on TA and the consensus seems to be that it is too much to do in one day if you like to mosey around at all.
