Montaione as good home base in Tuscany?

Has anyone stayed in or near the town of Montaione when visiting Tuscany? We plan on staying in Tuscany for 5 days next summer (part of a 2 wk trip in Italy) . We have reservations at Il Torrino Country Resort in Montaione. I read somewhere this is a good central location from which to take day trips wineries, to Florence, Pisa, other hill towns etc. There just seem to be so many choices! I’m wondering if anyone has any good or bad comments?

Hi
I live 10 miles near Montaione (sorry for my basic english)
Montaione is a good place to stay , but you must have a car.
The nearest railway station is Castelfiorentino (Firenze-Siena railroad) 7 miles of distance
All around Montaione there are a lot of "agriturismi", is turistic, you can try restaurants and accomodations, but is not an historical hilltown. If you have a car no problem, you have 10 miles to Certaldo ,12 miles to San Gimignano 15 miles to Volterra.
For Siena and Florence is better by train from Castelfiorentino station.
Enjoy

The location seems good for nearby visits such as Volterra and San Gimignano and seeing the beautiful countryside.. However, for visiting Florence and Pisa, the trip time is not short. The drive times in the Tuscan hills can add up (Siena is an hour away), and taking the train including transfers make for a long day.

It depends on how much you want to be in car, where you want to go, etc.
For Florence, you'll want to drive to a train station.
For wineries, you'll need to book a driver.
It might be a good idea to get a Blue Guide that has so much detail, then you can focus on locations closest to your base.
