Monster Garden in Bomarzo

Hi everyone,

I am taking my three sons and husband to Italy and Paris in February. Someone told me about this garden in Bomarzo and recommended I take my kids. Thoughts?

Also, if we put this in the itinerary, what do you think about driving from Rome (our starting point) to Bomarzo, then Asciano where we will stay for a few days, then to Bologna for a few days and drop the car there?

Thanks!

I thought about visiting Bomarzo last year, but it turned out to be inacessible by public transportation, so I have no personal experience to share. However, after I came back home, I stumbled on several negative reviews of the park--perhaps on TripAdvisor--and was glad I hadn't given a day to it.

I woudl not go out of my way to go there, but if you are driving from Rome to Asciano anyway, you might find it amusing. It is certainly unique and our young niece and nephew (2 and 6 at the time) liked the outing. However, we went in the summer. Is it even open in February?

The website (http://www.sacrobosco.it) states:

"The park is open every day of the year without a lunch break:
08.30 a.m.- 19.00 p.m. (from April to August)
08.30 a.m. - to sunset (from September to March)"

Thanks Kathy. I was too lazy to go look it up. It is very woodsy so would get dark long before sunset.

Well, I took the 12 folks in my family there and we had a good time. I managed to scare my 5 year old grandson in the big monster. It was fun. It doesn't take a lot of time. If your sons are young, we had a 5 year old and three 8 year olds, you will enjoy it. We took the best family photo of our three weeks in Italy at that park.

From there we made an easy jaunt over to Orvieto in the afternoon and visited that town. It won't take more than a half day to see the park.
