Money belt or suitcase?

During a free day in Positano, we would like to hire a driver to visit Amalfi and Ravello, and we will need to pay in cash. It will be easier to get to an ATM the week before in Rome, but that leaves us with a week with more cash than we usually have. Our choices are to put it in a money belt that we wear when we’re out, or leave it in a pocket in the suitcase in the hotel. The suitcase would be in the belly of the bus on travel days. I’m thinking that the suitcase might be better. Have any of you dealt with a similar situation?

They have ATM's in Positano, so you don't need to carry cash for the whole week. Getting it the day before would be fine.

Most machines will vend large notes for a large (within your bank's limit and the machine limit) withdrawal so you won't have piles of money.

If you leave it in the suitcase and it "goes missing" how will you feel and what will you do? Probably won't, but what if?

If it is in a moneybelt worn correctly your money is completely in your control all the time.

If I had a chunk of money (not normally something I have) I'd certainly have it with me.

Don't leave it in the suitcase, use the money belt. If you leave in hotel room, put in the locked safe.

There appear to be multiple ATMs in Positano just from googling. I definitely would get your funds there. I am sure your hotel can direct you. We have never really had an issue with finding an ATM on our travels. The most interesting one was India and that turned out to be a non-event.

Yes, I've carried quite a bit of cash on multiple occasions in Italy and feel most comfortable to have it in a hidden money belt on my person.
