My first time and want to walk alot. What monasrty in Spagna ITaly have you stayed and why did you like it . I don't speak Italian. Thanks
Kathy, I can't make a specific recommendation there, but if you don't get specific suggestions, I'd suggest the website Monastery Stays. Their prices include a small fee, but you may find it worth it since they provide specifics about locale, facilities, hours, etc, and they do all the booking and provide the confirmations. There are also some books on staying in convents and monasteries, although I've not found them too helpful. I stay in convents/monasteries whenever possible. FYI, regarding your comment about Italian: Typically, there is no English spoken, or at best, one person (who may or may not deal with guests) knows a little English. Convents seem less likely to have English spoken, although, as a broad generalization, I've found convents (ie, communities of women) to be more welcoming than communities of men. If you book yourself, I've e-mail is much easier than phoning; use Google Translate to compose the e-mail. And enjoy your trip!
