Has anyone used this service, or stayed at a Convent/Monastery? The places on the website (http://www.monasterystays.com)are down right gorgeous. I plan on taking my first solo plunge Nov. 2009, and I am enjoying looking around and reading everyone's advice and stories!
Thanks!
Here are 2 more websites that may help:http://bedandblessings.com/http://www.santasusanna.org/comingToRome/convents.html
Not yet used this service but I plan to do so next year (our dollars' tanked right now). I've found the same site and looked at the customer comments which seem genuine. The bed and blessing site link doesn't seem to work and Santa Susanna have put them on their site so I guess they are OK. They seem to add new places everytime I revisit (not that frequently)
I have twice stayed at Casa il Rosario in Rome, and at Casa Santo Nome di Gesu in Florence. Both extremely convenient and within walking distance to everything I needed. In Florence, a lovely walled garden, and in Rome, a garden terrace on the second floor (3d floor for Americans) and a roof top terrace with great views.

I have stayed at 2 convents in Italy.
Cortona and Orvieto, I highly recommend them. I suggest you eat elsewhere however as it is very basic. Ess. bread and watered instant coffee for brfast.
I used monasterystays.com to book our convent in Rome this summer. Our convent was wonderful...we had a lovely time and will definetly stay there again when we return. My advice to you, however, is to e-mail/call the convents/monasterys directly. You'll save the booking fee.
Here's a post I posted earlier:
We stayed at
Minime Suore Del Sacro "Beata M. Margherita Caiani" Via Fabio Massimo, 26 00192, ROMA
Tel: 06 324.2853 or 06 324.2984
e-mail: [email protected]
Our room had a full private bath as well as a private balcony (amazing)! Other than an English barrier, our experience was wonderful.
I booked the convent through monasterystays.com. I don't recommend using them to book, but take a look at the pictures of the place on the site. Also, I suggest booking via e-mail. Someone who speaks english sent us a confirmation e-mail.
Good luck!
