Has anyone been to Molise? I'm planning a 5 night trip to the area in November 2025. I can't decide where to stay as a base; that is, all 5 nights in one location or 2 nights in the Western area and 3 nights in the Eastern area???
Also, if anyone has any accommodation recommendations, that would be greatly appreciated.
Several years ago, we greatly enjoyed visiting the Saepinum Archaeological Area in November --- probably a few more people go there now, but then we were the only human beings in the whole place (there were goats and a friendly dog): https://www.parcosepino.it/
We stayed one night at the nearby Casale Kolidur --- Google says it's temporarily closed: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g3487968-d7384227-Reviews-Casale_Kolidur_Hotel_Restaurant-Guardiaregia_Province_of_Campobasso_Molise.html
This fall, we plan to stay one night to visit the bell foundry in Agnone: https://campanemarinelli.com/
If I had five nights in Molise, I'd probably spend them all in one central town and do a lot of driving because the countryside we saw on our one visit was so interesting and lovely. If I did divide it 2+3, I'd base the decision more on how much I liked the accommodations than on the locations. But that's me and my priorities.
Thank you...great advice!
Keep us posted if you do. My great-grandfather was from Campobasso and would love to visit one day!
There's a great trip report here:

We spent about five nights in Molise in September 2023.
Although the weather in Termoli was awful, we were so happy we dipped into this region.
We arrived in Termoli from Vieste in the Gargano; this was my first visit to Gargano and Vieste is, in my opinion, among the most beautiful Italian towns I've visited.
From Termoli we drove a short distance to an agriturismo in the countryside that we liked very much; We had an incredible dinner there one night; the second night there was no dinner served so we drove into the nearby town and had another superb meal of regional fare...highly recommend, even if we saw only a tiny fraction of this region.
Do not forget to sample their pork dish, pampanella.

From there, we made our way back to Fiumicino town for a few nights, after a stop in inland Lazio, and then flew home to the US.
Molise has become something of a joke in Italy. It's explained in this 2019 BBC article, which also offers a few travel tips: https://www.bbc.com/travel/article/20191023-the-italian-region-that-doesnt-exist

I find Molise far from a joke
Some of our best visits to Italy have included Abruzzo and Molise.
