am considering taking the Vitu ferry from Malta to Pozzallo, Italy. Then ground to Modica. I understand there are several hundred steps one has to negotiate?/ How strenuous and how long to go from top to the bottom and vice versa? Leaving Thursday.
Christina. Where are these steps that you would have to negotiate? I don't understand the question. I have been to Modica from Malta, on a day trip to Mt. Etna, but the "several hundred steps" has me baffled.
I read a recent blog and the young lady got exhausted going back up hundreds of stairs this past week. It seems that there is a high part and lower part of Modica and that all the shops are in the lower part and mostly churches in the upper part. I have been told that Vitu Ferries also offers the part you mentioned--i want to wait til we get to Malta to book the tour--Mt. Etna was very active in January. My daughter wants to get some Modica chocolates. Any suggestions you have to offer would be great!
Whoa! That's one heavily-terraced town! There will be lots of steps...it reminds me of Siena with the 'tunneled steps/ramps', only on much more of a hill. Pretty, though. If you haven't already looked at Google Maps Street View, do so...you'll get a good idea of what the town looks like. If you don't know how to get to Street View, PM me; it's easy. This would be a great time to invite you to our Sacto area Helpline get-togethers!!! Once a month, a bunch of us travel fanatics get together and talk (European) travel - our past and future trips. Since I doubt any of us have been to that region, please come to the next meeting you can make and tells us what it's like; we'll even 'ooh and ahh' over all of your travel photos LOL, 'cause we're like that! We meet every 3rd Sat of each month; we post reminders on the "General Europe" section of the Helpline. Hope to see you soon; have a great trip!
