We are planning our honeymoon in Italy. It will be the first time in Italy for either of us.
We'll split our time between Venice and Rome.
Any advice on a hotel in either location would be much appreciated. We of course want the charm of Italy but would both like the comforts of a luxury hotel this time around.

Do you want a "modern" hotel or a "luxury" hotel ?? Could be both, but could also be one but not the other. Maybe if you could define what you are seeking and a price range the Italy experts could respond better. (Not me -- in Rome we stayed in a funky B&B and in Venice a hotel near the train station -- we loved them both but I'm guessing you wouldn't.)
Hi Paula. Congratulations! My husband and I stayed at Residenza Cellini in Rome last October for our honeymoon. It was modern and comfortable and the room and bathroom are very large. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and they offer a pretty good breakfast. While not the most charming area of Rome, it is still in a great location. It's close to the train station and we were able to walk everywhere (except we took the metro to the Vatican).

I think we've decided to accept a friend's recommendation and go with Hotel Paba in Rome. Not sure about the modern/luxury aspect but it appears to be a great location.
Thoughts?
Also, we'll be heading to the Amalfi Coast instead of Venice.
I'm currently researching places to stay there. I'll post a separate thread with that heading.

For a honeymoon location I would recommend Positano on the Amalfi Coast. Here are some hotels in Positano where you could splurge for such special occasion:
