We start our trip in Venice for 2 nights and then move on to Florence for 4 nights followed by Rome for 3 nights. My husband and sons really want to visit Ferrari. Would it make more sense to go there on our way from Venice to Florence or take the trip during one of our days in Florence? We may rent a car or take the train... we haven't decided yet. Would love any feedback! Thank you!
If you visit en route to Florence, the issue might be the luggage, which you probably have with you.
In that case, maybe you could stop in Bologna (where you would change trains to go to Modena), drop your bags at the BO Centrale station, then take the train to Modena. At the end of the day, you'd take the train from Modena to Bologna, pick up your luggage, then take the fast FrecciaRossa to Florence.
You could also take a day trip from Florence, unencumbered by luggage. In this case you'd back track to Bologna-Modena, then back to Florence at the end of the day.
I'm not sure it's worth to rent a car. There are a lot of traffic restrictions in Florence, and the car isn't as fast as the trains, so in the end I don't think you'd save time, also considering the time necessary for the car rental pick up/return paperwork.
Thank you Roberto for your reply! That's extremely helpful information and I truly appreciate it!
