My husband and I are leaving for Italy tomorrow and will be staying in Bologna from 11/28-11/30. We were planning on visiting FICO Eataly World, but the reviews we are seeing are changing our minds. We were thinking of doing a tour on 11/29, but we are thinking or traveling to Modena or Parma instead. Any recommendations between the two?
Parma better, albeit a bit farther.
If you do visit Modena look into Osteria Francesana , down to #2 in the world from #1 last year. https://www.osteriafrancescana.it/
If the Michelin Stars is out of the budget he also has Franceschetta 58 a couple blocks away.
We visited both recently, and would probably also suggest Parma over Modena, though I did like Modena more than I thought I would. Mantova was my favorite destination.
Parma is wonderful.
We checked TripAdvisor when we were in Parma, and ate at a wonderful restaurant! Ristorante La Forchetta is located around the corner from the baptistery at Borgo San Biagio 6d, 43121, Parma, Italy. During September we needed reservations - not sure about November. Enjoy your trip!
If you're in Parma, stop in the cathedral next to the baptistery. I've been to numerous Italian churches, and this one is my favorite for the paintings along the upper walls.
Curious which reviews you read. We went to FICO on opening day and had a great time! We were there for 10 hours. If you do go, take the English tour from Matteo, he was great and so insightful about various producers on the 1 hour tour. And the balsamic vinegar ladies were so informed and delightful to talk with.........I think talking to the various workers at the stations about their products really excited us and left us feeling we were so glad we went. Not sure what you mean by a tour - FICO has a bus 7 € round trip that takes you to the entrance and you just walk around yourself or take the free guided tour offered 2x/day.
Oh, Parma over Modena, but I would stay in Bologna.
