Modena

Will be in Modena soon for the first time. Anyone who has been there recently have anything to share? Just want to wander and experience Italy off the main tourist route.

We only spent a day there, but loved the cathedral and the Palazzo dei Musei.

What do you like more?
The cathedral is UNESCO World heritage: less spectacular than other churches in Tuscany/Rome because is an older style (Romanesque), but there are a lot of histories and strange things represented in the several sculptures. Usually a guided tour is suggested.
Can be done a visit of the Ghirlandina tower and, just on the side, of the little (but interesting) museum of the Cathedral. Even the Townhall can be visited and some days even the "acetaia comunale" can be visited.
There are the "Gallerie estensi", a group of museums about different matters: not only paintings, but even musical instrument, oddities, rare books, geographical maps, archeology....
For foodies there are several restaurants. Even the covered market (Albinelli) is interesting. There is a unique shop in piazza Mazzini (Consorteria) who represent more than 20 different Traditional Balsamic Vinegar producers (the only place where you can do a wide horizontal tasting). For gelato lovers I suggest Bloom, one of the best Italian gelato shop.
There is an interesting Synagogue. Is very nice even the Duke's palace, but can be visited only on Saturday and Sunday with guided group. Is nice even the theatre, but is opened only for the shows.
For car lovers there is the Enzo Ferrari museum (with several Ferrari cars exposed) and, not far, the Maserati factory (there isn't a museum, but can be booked the production line guided visit).
In the center there is even a Stickers museum (museo della figurina), but mainly about Italian stickers.
Not far from the city there is the Pavarotti museum, but you need a car (or taxi) to go there.
